Main Station- Station 5

The painting below by renowned artist Ranulph Bye captures the image of how the Main Station appeared in 1960. The large stone building on the left was once a meetinghouse belonging to Buckingham Friends Meeting. The Quakers were divided in 1828 into two factions, The Hicksite and the Orthodox. Each faction had its own place of worship. When the two factions decided to once again unify, they left one building vacant. It was in 1958 that the Midway Volunteer Fire Company offered to purchase it. The Fire Company then moved out of its old firehouse, which is now the Lahaska Antique Court, across the street to it’s present location next to Peddlers Village. A dedication ceremony was held on June 28,1958.

During the 1970’s, many improvements were made to the firehouse including the remodeling of the meeting room, repainting of the firehouse, and installing an emergency generator to provide emergency power to the firehouse when needed. In 1979, ground was broken for six new engine bays that were added on to the front of the existing engine bays. The dedication for the new engine bays and the housing for 1977 Kenworth Tanker Truck were held on June 27, 1981. This event was also the 50 th Anniversary of the Fire Company.

Station 5Many changes and improvements have been made to the firehouse since then. Our Trustees work tirelessly to preserve and upgrade the Main Station for use by future generations of Midway Volunteer Firefighters.

Currently Ladder 5, Engine 5, Rescue 5, Tanker 5 and Field 5 are assigned to this Station. The station is located on Route 202 next to Peddlers Village. To arrange for a tour of the station, click here to contact the Fire Prevention Committee.
