In October of each year, the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce and the Burpee Family host a dinner and awards ceremony for all of the “Firefighter of the Year” honorees from each organization.

This year’s honoree from the Midway Volunteer Fire Company and the 2007 “Firefighter of the Year” is Dave Hathaway.

2007 Carnival

Thank You!

Carnival 2007The Midway Volunteer Fire Company and Auxiliary would like to thank everyone for helping to make this year’s carnival a success and for supporting the Fire Company. The carnival is a significant fund raising event for us, but it is also an opportunity to enjoy a few summer evenings with our neighbors.

We realize that many of you look forward to the carnival each year and mark the dates on your calendars as soon as they are announced. So check back here on our web site where we will be posting the dates of next years carnival shortly. In the mean time, enjoy the memories of carnivals past, winning at Kelly Pool, the look of excitement on your child’s face as they clutch that stuffed animal you just won for them and the taste of a funnel cake or cotton candy.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you next year.

Carnival 2007Congratulations!

Congratulations to George Kozma, of Robinsville, NJ for winning the car raffle and taking home a new 2007 Ford Mustang, and to Anita Peters of Warrington, PA for winning the dream vacation. George had this to say about winning the car; "To say that we were shocked when we received your phone call is a huge understatement.  I truly have never won anything in my whole life.  What a way to start!  As I told you on the phone, on June 28th we purchased a new 2007 Ford Mustang GT convertible.  We absolutely love it.  After many years of sacrifice and saving and doing for the kids before ourselves, my wife and I decided to buy ourselves something fun.  I was just 54 in July and my wife just hit her 40's and we finally thought that if we didn't do something like this now, we never would.  Then, on top of that, we received your call and became the proud owners of a 2nd Mustang.  My wife actually comes from a Mustang family.  Her Dad had a 1964 White Mustang with red interior (like the one in the James Bond movie) and he later bought a 1976 Mustang 4 speed, on which my wife learned to drive.  We are truly a Mustang family and the beautiful car we won from you will be well taken care of!" We could not be happier for George and his family!

Midway Volunteer Fire Company Firefighter Richard Stover Receives Rotary Club's Four-Way Test Award

Volunteers from the Midway VFC participate in Fire Prevention WeekThe Four-Way Test was developed by the Rotarians for promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives.  It’s based on the ideas of the Rotary, however, is given to a non-Rotarian who exemplifies these ideas. The Doylestown Rotary Club has been giving out the annual award for about 10 years. It is one of the world’s most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics and has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. It asks the following four questions:

“Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.  Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships?

4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”

The two gentlemen next to Mr. Stover from the left are Ron Smith, the Rotary District Governor and John Stanojev, president of the Doylestown Rotary Club.

Richard "Dick" Stover has been a Midway Firefighter since 1951. He has held just about every position in the fire company from Junior Firefighter to Chief! Congratulations Dick!

Local Area Schools Participate In Fire Prevention Week

Volunteers from the Midway VFC participate in Fire Prevention WeekVolunteers from the Midway VFC participate in Fire Prevention Week by visiting local area schools and demonstrating firefighting equipment and procedures. These demonstrations allow the children to become familiar with the Fire Company and greatly assist in allaying the children's fear.

Helping Our Own

Chief Steve Bison presents Midway President David Hathaway with a plaque of appreciationAfter continually updating and upgrading our fire fighting equipment to better serve our community the members of Midway Volunteer Fire Company decided the best thing to do with the retired equipment was to donate it to a fire company who could put the equipment into active fire service. By putting the word out through this website Midway firefighter Dave Shapp connected with the Cherokee River Volunteer Fire Company (www.fire.cric.org) a newly formed all volunteer fire company lacking the equipment and funding needed to adequately protect their new community in Moulton, Alabama.

Arrangements were made for Cherokee River’s Chief Steve Bison and Captain Klieta Bagwell to visit Midway Volunteer Fire Company’s Station 5 in Lahaska, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 12th to pick up the fire fighting equipment. The donated equipment includes 15 sets of personal protective equipment without which the Cherokee River volunteers have been actively fighting fires. The Cherokee River volunteers have a fire truck which was donated by Hagerstown, Maryland. Richland Fire Company also donated much needed breathing apparatus.

Midway’s Fire Police Captain John Reinhardt and his wife Mary provided housing for the visiting firefighters from Cherokee River. Members of Midway VFC joined the visitors for a tour of the stations and the exchange of equipment on Saturday morning. The press was there to cover the event represented by NBC 10 News and The Intelligencer.

The Midway Honor Guard Makes Their Big Screen Debut

The Midway Honor Guard Makes Their Big Screen Debut

After waiting a year and a half to find out whether or not they made the final cut of the new movie Ladder 49 or ended up on the cutting room floor, the Midway Honor Guard finally got the answer they wanted when the movie opened up on October 1st. While members of the Honor Guard can be seen in four or five scenes in the movie, the proudest moment for the Fire Company is when the Company flag can be seen in one of the last scenes in the movie. Look for a large blue flag with MVFC and Lahaska, PA on the bottom of it, on the right side of the parade scene near the end of the movie. Now the Honor Guard is anxious for the DVD to come out so that they can use the zoom and pan features to make their seconds of fame on the big screen go on for as long as they want. To view pictures of the Honor Guard during the filming of the movie, including a group picture with John Travolta, click here. For more information on the movie, visit these links:
