In October of each year, the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce and the Burpee Family host a dinner and awards ceremony for all of the “Firefighter of the Year” honorees from each organization.

This year’s honoree from the Midway Volunteer Fire Company and the 2007 “Firefighter of the Year” is Dave Hathaway.

Midway Volunteer Fire Company Firefighter Richard Stover Receives Rotary Club's Four-Way Test Award

Volunteers from the Midway VFC participate in Fire Prevention WeekThe Four-Way Test was developed by the Rotarians for promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives.  It’s based on the ideas of the Rotary, however, is given to a non-Rotarian who exemplifies these ideas. The Doylestown Rotary Club has been giving out the annual award for about 10 years. It is one of the world’s most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics and has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. It asks the following four questions:

“Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.  Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships?

4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”

The two gentlemen next to Mr. Stover from the left are Ron Smith, the Rotary District Governor and John Stanojev, president of the Doylestown Rotary Club.

Richard "Dick" Stover has been a Midway Firefighter since 1951. He has held just about every position in the fire company from Junior Firefighter to Chief! Congratulations Dick!

Local Area Schools Participate In Fire Prevention Week

Volunteers from the Midway VFC participate in Fire Prevention WeekVolunteers from the Midway VFC participate in Fire Prevention Week by visiting local area schools and demonstrating firefighting equipment and procedures. These demonstrations allow the children to become familiar with the Fire Company and greatly assist in allaying the children's fear.

Helping Our Own

Chief Steve Bison presents Midway President David Hathaway with a plaque of appreciationAfter continually updating and upgrading our fire fighting equipment to better serve our community the members of Midway Volunteer Fire Company decided the best thing to do with the retired equipment was to donate it to a fire company who could put the equipment into active fire service. By putting the word out through this website Midway firefighter Dave Shapp connected with the Cherokee River Volunteer Fire Company (www.fire.cric.org) a newly formed all volunteer fire company lacking the equipment and funding needed to adequately protect their new community in Moulton, Alabama.

Arrangements were made for Cherokee River’s Chief Steve Bison and Captain Klieta Bagwell to visit Midway Volunteer Fire Company’s Station 5 in Lahaska, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 12th to pick up the fire fighting equipment. The donated equipment includes 15 sets of personal protective equipment without which the Cherokee River volunteers have been actively fighting fires. The Cherokee River volunteers have a fire truck which was donated by Hagerstown, Maryland. Richland Fire Company also donated much needed breathing apparatus.

Midway’s Fire Police Captain John Reinhardt and his wife Mary provided housing for the visiting firefighters from Cherokee River. Members of Midway VFC joined the visitors for a tour of the stations and the exchange of equipment on Saturday morning. The press was there to cover the event represented by NBC 10 News and The Intelligencer.
